About Nicky Barneby

I am a book designer and typographer, specialising in colour illustrated book design. I also design fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction, series styles, reports and other complex documents.

 

Over nearly three decades I have designed books for publishers, large and small – Penguin Books, Hodder & Stoughton, Hardie Grant and Profile Books, to name just a few – as well as designing for clients such as ODI, University of Edinburgh Business School and Wyss Academy for Nature.

 

Every book or typographical project presents its own challenges. I combine creative typography with technical expertise to design solutions that will engage and guide the reader.

 

My work includes project management; art direction of illustration and photography; collaboration with authors, editors and other designers.

Prior to establishing my own studio I was Design Manager at Penguin Books.

I have also taught design and typography at Colchester Institute.
